minimally invasive bunion surgery

Procedure:

  • Done in office under sterile conditions
  • Local anesthesia to the bunion site
  • 2-3 small stab incisions to the bunion site
  • 1st stab incision is to release ligament of the big toe joint
  • 2nd and 3rd Stab incisions are to shave the bunion bump
  • The shaved bunion bone is taken out from the same stab incisions
  • One stitch for each stab incision
  • Time: 30 mins

Recovery:

  • 3 weeks
  • Protective walking with a surgical shoe from day one
  • Stitches are removed in 2 weeks

Risks

  • Chronic swelling that might linger for few months
  • Possible recurrence of bunion in a few years and might require a more invasive hospital procedure
  • Infection. Oral antibiotic is given to minimize infection
